A few frequently
asked questions.

Undergoing any cancer treatment can be a scary and unknown process. Don't worry, we get lots of questions all of the time!

 

Here are a few of the more frequently asked ones, but feel free to talk to your clinician or a member of our reception team anytime you have any further queries.

  • How long will I have to wait to see the Medical Oncologist?
    New referrals will be assessed and appointment allocated within 7 days. Referrals will be prioritised based on clinical issue and urgency of treatment. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your referral, please contact a member of our administrative team.
  • If I need intravenous therapy, where will that take place?"
    Our Medical Oncologists work across a number of clinical sites with Outpatient treatment facilities including: Bendat Comprehensive Cancer Centre, St John Of God Subiaco Hospital Genesis Cancer Care, Shenton house, Joondalup Geraldton Day Chemotherapy unit, St John Of God Geraldton Hospital
  • Can I take complimentary therapies during my treatment?
    If you are taking complimentary therapies alongside evidence-based anti-cancer therapy, we will assess each medicine individually to ensure it provides clinical benefit and poses no risk or contraindication to your prescribed medication.
  • Can I exercise during treatment?
    We strongly advocate for patients to participate in an exercise programme during anti-cancer therapy and would be happy to refer to and collaborate with a local exercise physiologist.
  • Do you work with other members of the Allied health team?
    We work alongside a range of other healthcare professionals to ensure our patients receive holistic and innovative care. We are happy to refer to and collaborate with any healthcare professionals that will contribute to your cancer journey and survivorship.
  • How do I request another prescription from my doctor?
    We ask that all prescriptions are requested during your outpatient consultation with your Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner. If you require a prescription outside of your consultation, please request this from your local GP. Any non-cancer prescription requests may be subject to an out-of-pocket fee.
  • How do I request the completion of an insurance form or medical certificate?
    We are happy to complete insurance forms or medical certificates. Please bring forms to your consultation or email into our administrative team. Complex forms will often be completed within 14 days. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your forms, please contact a member of our administrative team.
